Project SEARCH

Devante participated in Project SEARCH, a national program that is part of the Norfolk Public Schools Post-Secondary Career Development programs that serves students with disabilities after they graduate from high school. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide students with specialized vocational training that will lead to employment and independence.

Devante had mentioned that not having a ramp was one of his barriers to employment and independence and it was a major safety issue.

With help from our friends at 84 Lumber provide materials, we reached out and gave assistance in building the ramp to give Devante the opportunity to become more independent as he has transitioned to employment.

Projects 1

USO

Outdoor Adventure Team (OATs) provides bikes, equipment, access and training for cycling activities as an outreach program for NSW wounded, ill or injured. This program introduces NSW members to positive activities that adds to their lives in a way that will further promote health, longevity and comradeship beyond the platoon life. Participants add to their “life experience” through challenges like recreational cycling, mountain biking, bike racing, and extreme endurance events.

Projects 2

Wirth donated all of its management and supplied subcontractors for the build out, working with the USO to build out an office space, repair/storage area, bicycle exercise/practice room and a locker room.

Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School

Wirth Development Corporation continues its commitment to helping the youth of today with its consistent involvement with Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach. Chip Wirth helped established the Crusader Athletic Association and serves as a board member. This nonprofit association is responsible for adding a climate-controlled sports dome, an artificial turf field and new locker rooms. Increased self-esteem and better health are just two of the benefits players of sports can gain when using these modern athletic facilities. Chip says, “We were able to bring a lot of resources to Bishop Sullivan, and I think it’s made a big difference at the school.”

Charity Homes

Building charity homes is one more way Wirth Development Corporation helps raise funds for those less fortunate. Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters received proceeds from two of these houses. Later a charity house helped fund the building of a two-story administrative office for the Maison Fortuné Orphanage. Tickets were sold for tours of these homes. These properties were then sold with the proceeds given to the cause of choice. Wirth builders demonstrate their work ethic while illustrating their commitment to helping others in each of these charity homes.

Maison Fortuné Orphanage

Wirth Development Corporation is a long term supporter behind the Maison Fortune Orphanage of Hinche, Haiti. This charity enriches the lives of some of the poorest children in the world with more than just basic needs. These recipients are also educated and encouraged to be contributing community members. Thanks to Wirth’s efforts, there is an administrative building on campus that houses both administrators and American volunteers who come to teach. The company does much more than financially sponsor this orphanage, as team members travel to Haiti and assist in making this a property a place children can call home. “It’s starting to work; we’re starting to see results. The first kids are starting to graduate high school,” Chip Wirth adds, “We’re starting to really see the effects in their lives.” Helping the poor remains a top priority at Wirth Development Corporation and this orphanage is just another avenue for these builders to give back.
